Routing for the Binding

July 19....Today I routed the ledges for the binding. I used my Dremel with the Stew-Mac binding attachment to do the routing.

Routing the ledges for the main part of the body was no problem; routing the scroll area was more difficult. It had to be done by hand, with carving chisels and micro-chisels and needle files. It is slow-going and tough work. The spruce wants to crush and crumble, especially, and it is hard to get a crisp edge.

I also routed the ledge for the peghead binding. I'll just be using a simple ivoroid binding here (the same as I used for my fingerboard binding). Again, I used the Dremel binding attachment, along with some hand-routing for the scrolls.
